Venus in True Color
Venus is the second planet in the Solar System. It is very close to Earth in size, only slightly smaller. It was called Earth's sister planet because of these things. But Venus is actually very different from Earth.
Venus's atmosphere is full of clouds that obstruct the surface. The atmosphere is 96.5% carbon dioxide, 3.5& nitrogen, 0.015% sulfur dioxide, 0.007% argon, 0.002% water vapor, 0.0017% carbon monoxide, 0.0012% helium, and 0.0007% neon, with traces of other gases.
Surface and Climate
For many years, the surface of Venus was unknown. Most people believed that Venus was just like Earth and could support life because of its clouds in the atmosphere. However, modern science in the 20th century allowed astronomers to discover that the planet's surface is full of volcanoes and has a temperature of 863 degrees Fahrenheit!
